Sandstone Terrace, Steps and Brick Garden Store

A newly finished terrace photographed in low sun, which is the light that shows up every ripple in a paved surface. Large grey sandstone flags run the width of the garden on a full mortar bed, laid to a consistent crossfall so surface water leaves rather than sits.
Steps at one end lift you to the lawn, and a new brick garden store with a black door closes the far end against a new close-board fence. Everything is set out from the house so the flag joints run parallel to the building rather than drifting.
Groundworks and landscaping are one job at Pinewood because they are one question: where does the water go. Falls, drainage, edge restraint and a proper base are the whole difference between a terrace that is still flat in ten years and one that is not.
